Public Presentation of the INEC 2015 General Elections Report

On 21 October, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) made a public presentation of its 2015 General Elections Report. The public presentation was held at the main auditorium of The Electoral Institute, in the Central Business District, Abuja, FCT.

The INEC National Commissioner, Amb Lawrence Nwuruku, made the welcome remarks at the event.

Goodwill messages from the United Nations Development Programme and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems were delivered by Mr Opia Kumah and Mr Shalva Kipslidze respectively. 

An overview of the Report was given by the Secretary of the INEC Report Committee, John Irem. According to him, the first chapter of the Report contains the introduction with a review of the reforms carried out by the Commission. The second chapter highlights the policies and initiatives evolved to lay a solid foundation for free, fair and credible polls.

In her remarks, the INEC Acting Chairman, Mrs Amina Zakari, said, 'The Comprehensive Report on the 2015 General Elections is now ready for Nigerians and the rest of the World. I have the honour and previlege to present this historical document to you'. She also noted that, 'Many stakeholders have published their reports. Some presented interim or preliminary, while others have made their conclusions’.

The vote of thanks closing the event was given by the Director General of The Electoral Institute, Prof Abubakar Momoh.
