INEC and UNDP to Convene Bayelsa Peace Summit

According to a press release signed by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), INEC and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are convening a Peace Summit in Bayelsa State on Tuesday, 10 November, 2015.

The essence of the programme is for the twenty political parties and candidates contesting the 5 December, 2015 Governorship Election in Bayelsa to publicly restate their commitment to a non-violent and peaceful election and by signing the Peace Accord.

INEC has already sent invitation letters to the chairmen of all political parties to come along with their governorship candidates to sign the Peace Accord. Also expected at the event are the Commissioner of Police for Bayelsa State, Director SSS, heads of other security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, representatives of civil society, the media and other stakeholders.
